The Philippine Ambassador to Brazil, Marichu Mauro, was ordered to go back in the Philippines after a CCTV footage was released showing her maltreatment to a 51-year old Pinay household helper.
Last Sunday, the Barizilian news channel, GloboNews released a report showing Mauro berating and mistreating her helper multiple times inside the diplomatic residence. It was captured by a security camera and documented by employees who declined to be identified. The report said the victim “was physically assaulted many times, many days.”
Mauro was seen to have slapped, pinched, pulled the hair and ear, and hitted the helper with an umbrella on separate occasions as shown in the CCTV footage. This is now being investigated and according the Foreign Affairs secretary, Teddy Locsin, “the Philippine Ambassador to Brazil has been recalled effective immediately to explain the maltreatment of her service staff.”
The Pinay helper was reported to have left Brazil and returned home in the Philippines last Oct. 21. “The DFA is reaching out to her to ensure her well-being and cooperation in the investigation. The DFA assures the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted.”- Locsin.
It was noted that on the year 2018, Mauro was designated on being an Ambassador to Brazil, as well as to Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, at Venezuela.
